Flawless (FL) is the best clarity of a diamond as it does not contain any inclusions or blemishes, under the scrutiny of 10x magnification. (Or) No visibility of internal inclusions and external blemishes – Exceptionally rare, high quality, and highly expensive.

Very Very Slightly Included (VVS1, VVS2) diamonds have inclusions but are very minute ones and are not visible to expert gemologists under 10x magnification. (Or) So slight inclusions, but difficult for a skilled craftsman to see under 10x magnification – Very high in quality, and costly.
Very Slightly Included (VS1, VS2) Diamonds also contain minute inclusions, such as clouds, crystals, or feathers, but unlike Very Very Slightly Included diamonds, Very Slightly Included stones' inclusions, though miniscule are only just difficult to locate with 10 x magnifications, rather than being extremely difficult. (Or) Inclusions are observed only for skilled craftsmen under 10x magnification – Very good in quality, and costly.
Slightly Included diamonds (SI1&2) contain inclusions that are noticeable to the naked eye and such inclusions are clouds, knots, crystals, cavities, and feathers. These inclusions are more visible in step cuts like emerald and Asscher cuts. However, SI2 has more visible inclusions when compared with SI1. (Or) Inclusions are visible under 10x magnification, may have chances to naked eye also – Good in quality, cost is less than VSI diamonds.
I1,I2 & I3 (Included) have obvious inclusions that are clearly visible to naked eye, and even more to a trained grader under 10x magnification. These have very huge clouds, feathers, knots, cavities and crystals. Inclusions in I1 graded diamonds are often seen by the naked eye, I2 diamonds inclusions are easily seen, while I3 diamonds have large and extremely easy to see inclusions that typically impact the diamond brilliance and structure.
The importance of diamond clarity is affected by the other diamond qualities, such as shape and size. In step-cut shapes, such as Emerald cut and Asscher cut diamonds, the shallow pavilion and open table accentuate the stone clarity and can make characteristics visible more easily. Similarly, in larger carat sizes, characteristics can be more noticeable due to larger facets. Like all the 4C’s, the optimal clarity grade is a matter of personal preference.
